Add another 5r55s trans that took a crap with F/I
Well, it's finally happening. After adding 200hp to my car, stuff is finally starting to break. Yesterday, on an open stretch of road, I did what any other Mustang guy would do. I stepped on it, and the car accelerated normally until about 5500rpm, when the car suddenly went to the rev limiter as if I had put neutral by accident. It kept slipping until I pulled over and came to a complete stop. Then it started running normally.
Same thing happened today, only on a much softer takeoff. I immediately turned around, and garaged the car. Might as well save it while it can still drive on it's own to a mechanic...
I am now looking at the options I may have. Buy a hardened rebuild kit, find a competent tranny mechanic here in PR, and have it rebuilt; possibly taking a month in the process and risking it not coming out right. Or buying a TCI Super Street Fighter 5r55s and just swapping the entire thing out.
Bummest part of it all is... my Detroit Rocker cams arrived today.

Before you drop lots of money into another 5R55 I would recommend you go ahead and upgrade to the 4R70w. It will cost a little more that another 5R55 but you will have a trans that will hold up with your power levels. I wish I had gone that route initially with mine. I have ended up spending more on the 5R55 than an upgrade would have cost me and still have a trans that I know could blow at any time. I don't care what anyone says you can upgrade the components all you want but the 5R55 just does have the internal structure to handle over 500 rwhp. A built 4R70w will easily handle up to 1000 rwhp.

If you stay with the 555 tranny, consider who the tuner is. The mapping on the tranny shifting and lock up points are very important for that tranny.

When was the last time you had the trans fluid flushed and refilled?
I had mine done right at 38k miles, flush.. new filter.. new Mercon 5 and some BG like treatment solution.
It was starting to slip and got very warm frequently when I first installed my intercooler and 10 psi pulley. I was worried about it crapping out on me, so I had it done..
Brenspeed suggests every 20k miles.

With about 100 passes down the track each year, I change out the fluid once a year. Also have a catch can for the tranny to vent out and collect the hot fluid. I'm gonna do all the preventive stuff I can to make this trans last as long as possible.
