Default Idle issues

Hello All

Need a little help please, got a problem with my 05 V8, when it starts up and is idling its like it can't find the correct idle level, I have taken a couple of videos and will attach them, hope you can hear them ok, the first video is starting up from outside and the 2nd is inside and it shows the speedometer twitch slightly.

To be honest I have not used my car much over the last year and the battery has gone flat a few times, I charged it and got it running a month or so ago and used the car no problems at all and did a few long drives to burn off any rust and I thought everything was all ok till the other day I started it up and as it was idling it vibrated as it was trying to level out and it made the car shake each time it did. Never had this before so its a little tough trying to explain, hope you guys understand. Can anyone help before I take it down to the Ford dealer please? No engine management lights are coming on and when it drives its fine, just when its sitting.

Thank you

Mine does the same thing?! I'm not sure what it is but once it warms up it idles up and down bouncing between 500-750 rpm. I have an 06 gt.

Besides the idle issue, how does the car run?

If it runs fine, then I'd suspect the throttle body/IAC valve. Try removing the throttle body and cleaning it with throttle body cleaner first.

Car runs fine, I had an issue with one of the engine management coils that fit on top of the spark plugs but I figured that one out and replaced it and all was well for a few weeks and then this.

Took her for a quick spin yesterday and it doesn't seem to do it when I am driving just when its sitting.

You think take apart the throttle body and check it out? What could go bad there?

+1 on cleaning the TB. Also, it wouldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter if it's been over 30,000 miles. Although they typically can go more a lot more miles, it's not uncommon for a filter to clog early.

Cleaning the TB is pretty simple. Even a very minor varnish buildup can cause issues.

Edit: It also wouldn't hurt to run 1 or 2 tanks with Seafoam properly mixed.

Well the idle air control valve can go bad, but they usually just get gunked up with oily crude from the pcv system. It's easy to remove the throttle body. Just spray it inside and out with throttle body cleaner.

Thanks so much for the reply guys you might have saved me a lot of money!

I am all set to go tomorrow morning and bought a can of cleaner and also Sea foam today and will clean out both of them and hopefully sort this issue out, will report back.

I have done a lot of reading here about Sea foam since your advice, am I right in understanding that the majority of people here just add it to the gas tank and not anywhere else? Seems it can go in the brake booster line or something too? and/or Oil res?

The car has about 48k on it now and I have never ever added anything to the tank or engine and just use standard octane gas.

Should I add anything else to it or at a later date as regular maintenance?

Thanks

Stu

Back, cleaned out the throttle body and it did have quite a bit of dirt and it cleaned up well, plus used the sea foam and it appears to have stopped the problem so thank you very much for that.

I do need to change out the fuel filter still which I will do soon but I wasn't able to clean the IAC because it doesn't appear to have one on the 2005 GT, I did a lot of research about this so I could only clean the throttle body.

Is this correct, does the 05 GT not have a IAC?

Thank you

Stuart
