Default 4.6L 3V variations from 05-10??

I am pondering buying a used spare engine, maybe a future project. I have '06 GT Auto. Are there variations in 07 or later I should stay away from?? Or benefits??

Or will the 5.0 'bolt' in?? All info appreciated.

Happy Turkey Day.

Later engines got one-piece spark plugs that are infinitely easier to deal with. Somewhere after the middle of 2008 production, I think, as my early 2008 (calendar year) GT has the good ones. 2010's at least got a 315 HP tune (basically about the same as the 2007 Shelby GT Mustangs and the FRPP tunes for the 4.6) as standard.

A Coyote powertrain will bolt in, getting all the electronics to play nice with each other will likely be the hard part.

Heads where pretty much the only difference and I think 2008 was the year it changed. But if you are getting an engine with heads, then 2008+ would be the better option for the heads. I believe if you are buying "new" you can only get the cast iron "boss" block, which is actually 5.0, but the 3-head bolt on.
