Default Quiet Axelbacks

Don't laugh but I got Kooks Longtubes with the catted H-pipe that travel to Mac Axlebacks and now the sound is just a little more than my liking. I have a lot of bolt-ons but I don't think axlebacks make any real performance so getting a new one couldn't hurt. Can someone suggest me a new Axleback so I can tone it down some? Also if it makes any difference I have Detriot Rocker Cams I don't want to lose that Lopey idle sound either but again it shouldn't make a difference right?

GT500's, 08-09 Ford Bullitt Mufflers, Borla or FRPP Touring.

Looks like this would be for the 05' GT in your profile. We would recommend the Borla S-type BOR-11750. This would tame it down some. If you wanted to tame it down, even more, you could go with the Borla Touring BOR-11752. You can search YouTube for sound clip videos. Use "2005 Mustang GT Borla Touring axle-back" or "2005 Mustang GT Borla S-Type axle-back."

If you wanted to quiet it down on a budget go with Walker Quiet Flow-SS mufflers. Drivers side WLK-53740. Passengers side WLK-53739. Or find someone that has stock muffler takeoffs and see what you can get those for.

Don't know your budget, but I can recommend Corsa axelbacks. Nice sound, more mellow than OE but not overly loud. Best feature, absolutely no cabin drone. Lifetime warranty. I love them on my '06 GT 'vert.

This thread is the reason why I never went with longtubes. I did an H Pipe with FLowmasters American Thunder axle backs with my cams. And while it sounded great. It was loud. As I recall. We took a vacation with another couple. We drove separately. He said he wouldn't even see my car and could hear me when I was passing vehicles. It had the dreadful drone. I did manage to get rid of that after installing high flow cats (Metallic). The car sounded great at idle. I have since swapped the axle backs with GT 500 axle backs. Much quieter. Still has a rumble.

Man those stock mufflers look like big trashcans. They look tacky.
