Over heating problem
My '06 GT has started occasionally over heating. I installed a new thermostat and thought I had fixed it. It happened again today. Can anybody tell me where the coolant temp. sensor is located? I can turn the fan so it isn't locked up. The car has a little over 180K miles on it. Thanks in advance.
Sorry I cannot answer either question, but something to consider - have you previously had an issue with the fan relays? Someone just revived an old thread on the issue. Might be worthwhile to check the high and low speed relays in the fuse box under the hood. I think its just an age thing with these cars. I recently discovered and am set to remedy the matter in my own vehicle. My fan wouldn't shut off, even turning off the car, but this melting relay issue is the cause for quite a few odd cooling issues. Good luck in your endeavor.

If it's only the former, it's a fan issue. The first thing to check is whether the fan switches on when you turn on the AC. If it doesn't the problem could be a blown fan relay (high or low speed), burnt contacts on the BEC, a burnt fan resistor, or a burnt fan motor. The most common cause is a bad fan resistor and that often causes secondary damage (overheated relay).
When you remove the fan, connect jumper wires from each terminal in if the electrical connector to the positive and negative battery posts and see if it works. You may find that the fan motor is OK and that the fan resistor is burnt. Also check the high & low speed fan relays in the BEC.
We had the same question about the fan on the 2011+ Mustangs. The fan runs when the air is turned on, even on first cold start in the morning. The fan doesn't run on first cold start in the morning with the air off.....
Well here's an update. I installed new thermostat, no change. I decided to order a new fan from Rock Auto. Got it today. I saw a video on youtube that showed one of the 4 pins in the connector to the fan that was burned. I found this same thing on mine. I decided to keep the new fan since the car has almost 190K miles on it. I ordered a new connector from Pigtails. I installed the fan and when the connector gets here Monday I will splice the 4 wires and I think that will take care of the issue.

unless your problem is fan is drawing too much current.. Also, clean, file, sand the male fan side contact points clean of burnt material, otherwise bad connection and repeat in short order. A little dielectric on contact helps too.
