Default Identifying Cylinder Numbers

Hi,

I'm in Scotland, had my 05 GT since new. Recently I've had the engine fault light up and when I plugged in my scanner it was fault code PO153 Oxygen Sensor Slow Response Bank 2. I'm over in the States in 4 weeks so I'll pick up a new sensor while I'm over. However when I searched for parts there were different part numbers for banks 1 and 2, and Google searches have given me opposing answers to which bank is which from the front. So will some kind person please tell me, when I'm standing in front of it looking under the hood with the Driver's side to my right, which cylinder is number 1 and therefore bank number 1?

Thanks,

Dave

Sorry, realised my mistake above. Cylinder 1 in bank 2.

Bank 1 is passenger side. The cylinders are numbered as follows:

4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5

Hi, Thanks for replying and your help. Since I posted this morning I've found American Muscle sell a package of 2, so I might just order this and replace both sides at the same time, save any issues if the other side goes too.

Dave, I think you're still confused.

https://www.yourmechanic.com/article...ank-2-sensor-1

The code is for sensor 1 bank 2. It's the upstream sensor on the driver's side and is screwed into the exhaust manifold.
You might want to read the info in the link above since the O2 sensor itself could be OK with the code alerting you about a different underlying problem.

Hi Dino,

Thanks for your reply. I know the fault is bank 2, I just asked for number 1 so I could identify which bank was which, as I found diagrams on a Google search saying both answers were correct which was no help at all.

With regards to the other potential problems that could cause the fault light, all could be solved here with no problem, however if it turns out to be the sensor I'd then need to find the part on the website and a shipping company to send it to Scotland which is not cheap. Far easier to just buy it when I'm in the States and take it home and if it turns out I don't need it I either save it for another day or sell it on.

Dave,

I live in Cyprus and in order to save on shipping costs, I usually place a larger order of multiple parts (usually service parts that I anticipate I'll need over the next two years). I find rockauto.com to be a great parts resource.

Dino,

Thanks for that, I'll take a look for the parts I need. Cheers.
