turbo coupe
I might be buying a turbo coupe later this week for $700. It runs but has a blown head gasket. Im going to buy it hopefully so I can wait out the insurance company. Any ways it has a 5 sp, 180k leather interior, its an 86, and AC. Couple of questions, 8.8 rearend or 7.5, La2 comp or la3, IHI turbo or different,
thanks, luke

nothin yet i found it on auto trader i think its white. I dont buy the mag I just go into the store and the phone numbers out of it .... anyways when I go to look possibly buy it thursday ill take pics of it. If i get this car then Ill have two 2.3ts! The guy that has it right now says that someone was going to put a new 2.3t in it in a couple of weeks but as long as its just the head gasket im not going to worry about it and just do the gasket and turn up the boost and do a fmic. If it is the la2 will the la3 ust plug right in? I also have brown top injectors but not sure if this one does or not. Im excited but my parents are going to shoot me. This will be my fourth car this year if I get it. 96 mustang gt, 70 f100, 84 gt turbo and hopefully the turbo coupe.

Already has a garrett turbo. Has the .63 leave it alone. Boost can go above 20psi. IHI can't so leave it alone rebuild if necessary. I put in a 8.8 in mine and now gone to back to a 7.5. So it already has limited slip and 345. So leave it alone. Only need 8.8 if go over 300HP. Now going to the later 87-88 computer. LA series is a good idea. Need the injectors, bigger vam. 86 has small one. What I would do is upgrade computer vam, injector and go Front mount intercooler. A 3" exhaust and adjustable boost control also. You are starting out with a good starting point. Here look at my pictures and notice how underhood looks like your 86 when I started. Second is where I am now except for 5.0 throttle body.

the 1986 TC has #35 injectors, small VAM, and a PK1 or a PC1 computer.
You need to move 2 pins to run the LA series computer correct but you'll have to add wires for the IAC sensor, which you'll need to add for best performance

sight... once agian with the pins o well. I have the vam, la3 comp, and brown tops with the stang. I just need to take the injectors out. The pins i need to move are they the ones in the wire harness or on the computer?? I have to check out how much insurance will be before I get it but so far its a go. IAC wires is that to hard cause im pretty bad with wiring. also its hard to tell mg man but does it have the square manifold or the straight one??

Same manifold as the turbocoupe and mustangs. I think the SVO's were differant. Like sleeper said move some wires add a Intake air sensor. Goes in the intake. Can get a later mustang one and install. Way I did on my 86 turbocoupe motor that is in this my mustang. As far as repinning. At the computer is 60 wires with numbers on the connection just need to move from one hole to another. On the sensor will need run wire to the computer. Done a short video of how to do. Using a scratch awl or other pointed object and move the wires. http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w...t=100_0204.flv

It's 2 VAM wires that need to be moved and only 2 wires needed to be added . Thats easy to do, run 2 wires to the IAC, then to the computer.
For the VAM, check around, I know I told in a thread which wires have to be moved.

If get it let us know. Sleeper-inc, me or several other be glad to walk you thru it. The main thing is if buy it. Get it running properly like it is then upgrade. Otherwise be hard to fiqure out if had a problem to begine with or fouled up in the conversion. That is what I did. Learned and then upgraded. Good luck
