engine problems
my grandpa has just boughta 1990 convertible mustang with the 2.3 w/ automatic trans, it was in a minor front end collision and the engine doesnt run good at all,its a sometimer, sometimes it idles good, and sometimes it dies in gear, sometimes it smokes alot andsometimes theres no smoke at all... it doesnt seem to matter what temperature the engine is at. And it doesntseem to be firing on all cylinders. We unplugged the MAF sensor and itdidnt change anything, could the sensor be bad? I think the plug wiresneed to be changed to but I dont know anything about the ignition system on this car, im used to my66 straight 6. any help would be greatly apprectated.
Run codes on computer. Good tuneup. Check for vacumn lines off, Maybe a broken "t" in vacumn lines.Maybe cracked distributor cap. Look for maybe a wireconnection on motor loose or broken. How old is fuel filter. Wreck could have strirred up some junk in gastank and plugged it. Best ideas i got for now.
ByMAF youmeant mass air flow meter right? If thats what you mean you didn't unplug it on a1990 2.3.The 2.3 engine did not get a mass air systemuntill they got the dual plug head in'91. I would check the distributercap first.
