Help Please.......
Ok. First off I would like to say hi to everyone and let ya know I am new to the American car industry. I am a former/still current ricer lol.(hope that doesn't stop any help lol)
On to the good part...
Bought an 87 mustang LX 4 banger today for a great price. Here is my issue.... To take off from a dead stop, I have to give it a good amount of gas(but not too much otherwise it just sounds like it is backfiring, struggling, VERY SLOW, and then stalls out) to go. I can't just give it the "normal" amount and I have to ease off the clutch very slowly so that way I can get the perfect amount of RPMs so it'll take off with out doing the stalling thing(whether it be too much or too little). Also, if I floor it it'll do the same thing I described if I give it too much gas when taking off from a dead stop. The same thing also happens when I shift at a normal shifting RPM(around 3k)and let it go too low on the rpms(under2k). The guy I bought it from said the EGR valve was messed up(never heard of one of these lol) so I did some research on here, google, and some othermustang dedicated forums. I now pretty know what it is for, haven't really found out where it is/looks like, but will look tomorrow when it's not dark. The guy I bought it from alsosaid hetried cleaning it out but that didn't work, butI'd rather try that andtest for the vaccuum pressure myself....... Also, an fyi, the car was sitting for about 3 months before the previous owner had it so the fuel system and spark plugs/wires light dinged in my head.
My question is what do you guys, and gals, think it is/could be? Thanks for all the help in advance and I look forward to learning a lot.

Welcome. I like converting ricers. Just jokinging I am one of the older [in age] here. The egr valve is mounted at rear of upper intake on the engine side of throttle body. I would remove it. It should not let air thru from exhaust manifold into upper intake. Will look something like this. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...82&PTSet=A
Also good idea to replace plugs, wires, cap etc. With gas at its price will help. Question [light dinged in head in my head] =meaning. What are you saying.

The ding in my head is from previous experience with foreign cars cause with issues like this the first thing I think of is ignition(spark plugs/wires) system components and fuel (fuel pump/filter/lines) components. But I would also expect something similar to these issues with a vaccuum issue which, from what i've read, seems to kind of match up with the egr valve stuff.
I've always loved American muscle(or baby muscle in my 4 banger's case lol) but never came down this path before. Opportunity knocked with a nice starter car($250 lol) to work from and learn with. I like the diversity in the domestic community as well b/c with imports it's almost exlusive to the younger crowd unless it's about the outrageously overpriced cars whereas already I've notice that the range in age, skills and knowledge is drasticly diverse.... I kind of like it already lol

Thanks. I would check the egr valve. Look over engine real good for bad vacumn lines [cracked or missing]. Good tune up. I would replace fuel filter. Should help. Talk about import look at my name MG Man 75. Have restored 75 MG Midget [from England]. Building a MGB with a 2.3 Ford turbo. Drive a 89 Mustang turbo. So welcome and ask question.

More pictures in my gallery and photobucket.com under mgman75. I paid 200 for the mustang body with no motor or trans so sound like you got a good deal.

I thought the name might be for the MG brand cars..... man I love those lol...... well thank you, and I will check everything out tomorrow and stuff(stuck working on a friend's 97 dodge ram too, which suprisingly is having close to the same issues as my "new" stang exept his truck isn't a stick so he can't just try driving it lol). Don't worry, you'll probably see a lot of questions from me. I plan on starting on fixing this motor to normal running capabilities, then with the upgrades, then on to a swap most likely lol
No problem. Here is under hood of mustang. Vam has been moved since this picture. Haven't had chance to take any photo's.

You are on correct path. Get you car running correct and learn. Then can improve. Like a few here turbo maybe a option. Me learned hard way. Went from working on MG's straight to turbo. Fouled up plenty but had advantage Mustang was a 3rd car for wife and me. It sat alot while I learned

Yeah, this is my second car at the moment cause I just sold my civic si, rx7, and evo. Still held on to my 95 celica though, I just love the body style,
none of that ricer body kit stuff for that car cause I think it's perfect how it is with stock exterior, well except I put on an antenna from a 350z instead of having an 8ft mast retractible
lol(don't have any pics of it with the new antenna yet........ plus I haven't had time to do the celli how I want yet and shes my baby lol, needs a clutch but still my baby lol..... enough ricer pics though, here's the mustang exterior..... needs some tlc lol

MGman - nice rubber bumper Midget you have there. Your bumpers look like the ones on my '77 BGT did when I first got it - lots of boot polish & time will bring them to a nice dull shine. I had a '78 Midget in Carmine Red - yours looks like Pageant Blue if I'm not mistaken.
where in NC are you from dabazied? im in currituck (powells point) right on NC 158.

and yeah i finally got a new radiator hose, ill post new pics when i get my intake painted and mabey a CAI
