Default Trans Problem

alright well heres the problem, i go threw the gears fine but coming back out of 4th into 3rd it gives me a grinding problem it seems like it doesnt want to go into 3rd, but with a little working it around it goes back. what could be causing this? another thing, should the clutch pedal be tough to put to the floor? or should it be loose? mine you have to give it a little force behind it. thanks.

if you press the clutch to put it in neutral out of 4th and then hit the clutch before putting it in 3rd and it goes fine, your synchros are probably on the way out.

as for the clutch, mine has a stiffer pedal than any 5.0 i've found that doesn't have a quick release quadrant so i think yours is just the way it's gonna be. work out your left leg

Sounds like you have a synchro on the way out, check that the trans has atf in it and not gear oil. Mine was a bitch to shift until I realized the idiot before me had filled it up with gear oil when the manual calls for atf, after switching it got a lot better. As for the clutch my Haynes manual makes vague references to greasing the clutch cable every tune-up, so maybe your cable's binding up a bit?

Hmm... Take the trans to a shop and have them check it out and have it fixed/rebuilt before it blows (then you'll need to buy a new transmission lol)

Yep, good old Automatic Transmission Fluid, I think Mercon is the ford one or something like that...just look for whatever one say its works with fords. If it has Gear oil in it you'll know from the smell when you open it up, try not to get any in your hair either when you are draining it or else you won't be too popular for a few days.
