Default Starting problem

Car starts sometimes and at others it will just make like a click sound (like the click of a lighter) when i turn the key. just a single click. car has power so its not the battery (at least i dont think). so any ideas on what it could be? its a 92 2.3l.

Before you spend ANY MONEY do what they are hinting at; check connections. ESPECIALLY check that you have proper ground (battery and starter). Ground is what everyone overlooks and the first place you shoudl start. Could be a dead spot in the starter, but it's good practice to eliminate the stupid (and often free) stuff first.
