Default Teach me about turbo please

ok im confused............lol nothing new..........i have been doing some research about turbing my 93 mustang 2.3......i am thinking about rebuilding the engine in the car for a turbo setup. Forge pistons, some nice rods an crank maybe(rods an crank in n/a motor same as turbo motor?). Now heres the part where i get lost. I was thinking about having valves and porting an polishing the head done. This is a eight plug car(coil packs). Every car i have seen that has been turbed has a distributor. NO ONE has a turbed car with eight plug an coil packs that i have seen. Why is this? I dont understand.....people turbo hondas an they dont have a distributor or newer cars like dodges srt 4. Could i turbo my mustang like this an have a decent running car? How would i program it or adjust timing or would it adjust timing???? im just lost lol

People use the coil packs, but they only use one. Also the turbo computer can only run the distributor unless you buy a megasquirt or J3 chip.

Also why are you comparing modern cars to 20+ year old engines? just asking.

Anyways the rods are good till around 400hp, crank till about 800-1000hp, pistons 400hp/

The 93 block is a small journal and the E8 block (the one in your car) is **** to failure if bored out past .020.

check turboford.net for more info

ok sleeper people run both coil packs, thats whats on my TC, the crank is the same as the turbo one, the pistons are flat tops so you need dished ones, if you use the 8plug head the combustion chamber might be heart shaped if so port that out, get a garrett t3 A.R60 not an A.R40, mi father has a lot of turbo stuff so ill talk to him see if he can sell some, any questions hit me up

On the pre 91 blocks yes, but they went small journal on the 91+ 2.3 blocks.

If he dose use the 8 plug head the computer for the turbo will need to have a J3 chip on it, or the stock computer have a custom tune done to it

What did you have to do to get it to work right (or did you run the 8 plug head on a 4 plug block?)

I just parted out a 2.3 If you need the exhaust manifold and stock turbo, send me a PM and we can work it out (say it with me... cheep) It came out of an 88 TC. The block/head/intake is gone already.
