Default 2.3l needs help

I have a 92 lx hatch, and I'm having 2 problems with it. The first is that sometimes when I hit the gas, from a stand still, I majorly lose power, until I completely mash the accelerator, then it jumps to and gets movin'. Second my gas mileage sucks, I'm going through half a tank a week, driving around 20-30 miles, and my highway gas mileage is just as bad. I'm new to mustangs but I figured it being a 4-cyl it should get better gas mileage than that. Any ideas on what I can do to fix either of them would be appreciated.

Back probe your TPS with a multimeter. Make sure there are no dead spots in the voltage output as you open and close the throttle, and that its sending the correct voltage. Sounds like a similar problem I had a while back.

Is the check engine light on?

I agree with babymonk, sounds like your TPS needs to be adjusted. I have to adjust mine every couple of months to avoid the wandering idle and major bog down at acceleration. Adjusting this should also help improve your mileage as well. Stinger has a good write up on his web site.

Thanks for the link. I could do that if my RPM gauge worked. And yes the check engine light is on, most of the time.

Weird thing is when I borrowed the tester from my local O' Reilly's, formerly know as schucks, it didn't give me any except for a short that I believe I fixed when I replaced my spark plug wires.

So a friend of mine suggested something and I thought I'd run it by ya'll see what you think, and I need helping finding the right part, but he suggested that it might be my fuel pump or the fuel system. I had the idea that it might be a partially clogged fuel filter. Are either of these a possibility? If it is the fuel pump what should I get to replace it?

If its never been changed, then yes change the fuel filter.

As far as your symptoms go, I really don't think It will change much.

Go someplace that knows how to do both KOEO and KOER EEC-IV diagnostic testing. With symptoms this bad you should be getting codes related to the issue, especially if your CEL is on.

Did you check your TPS yet? You dont need your tach to check it, just a multimeter.
