I'M HAVING STARTER ISSUES DON'T KNOW IF ITS THE STARTER ....IT WANTS TO CRANK OVER ..THEN SOMETIMES IT MAKES A SPINNING SOUND LIKE IT SLIPPED..
MY BATTERY TESTED GOOD....IT HAS A BRAND NEW ALTERNATOR ....I'M STUMPED!!!!
PLEASE ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED...BY THE SHE IS 89 LX 2.3

 

The free spinning could be either a failing starter or you could be missing some teeth on your flywheel so it is not catching every time. When you had your alternator and battery tested did they test the starter as well? If there is excessive amperage draw by your starter it is probably going bad and not getting enough oomph to engage the Bendix drive fully.

Pull your starter and have it tested, if its good check your solanoid and ring gear
