Default crate engines

due to the fact that my engine has excessive blow by for no appearent reason and i dont want to tear it down to check out the heads and piston rings, i've decided to buy a crate engine. anyone know any places besides jegs, and summit that have a crate motor with a forged rotating assembly for under 5 grand?

I haven't looked at prices, but check Coast High Performance and DSS if you haven't yet....

+1

Coast High even has variations on their rotating assemblie where you could go all forged internals and even have it prepped for forced induction. In fact, you could even order a turnkey assembly if that's what you're looking for... just drop it in, tune, and go!

I have always heard that DSS was short for Downs Syndrome Shortblock.

Hey Fiveliter, how do you know you're having excessive blowby? Did you run a leakdown test? If it's oil consumption that's making you think you're having blowby issues, you may try swapping out your old OR AFTERMARKET (regardless of its age) PCV Valve. I just decreased my oil consumption by some crazy percentage (at least 80%) by simply going to an OEM PCV valve instead of an aftermarket valve (apparently having the incorrect flow rate). Just thought I'd share.

well the wierd thing is its only in one cylinder. I pulled the plug out of the first cylinder on the driver side, i suppose on a ford thats cylinder 2, but the plug was covered in oil and burnt up real bad. the electrode was pretty much one piece from how bad it was covered and burnt. So i figured I would go ahead and change my plugs wirse and pcv valve, but i cant find my pcv valve. i searched all over and i cant find it. i spent atleast an hour looking on the back of the intake and just cant see it. I did notice though, that i have a hose going from my oil filler neck to a vacuum port on my throttle body..i dunno what thats all about but i looked at my buddy's, who has a powerdyne supercharger and a cobra intake, and he just had the throttle body tube plugged off and a hose connected to the filler neck just running down the motor like an over flow tube. so i did the same thing. but i figured the burnt up plug and the quart or so of oil i've been burning is due to worn rings.

Why dont you check out the latest issue of MM&FF... they have like a 5-6 page article all about crate engines and where to get them from, basic questions, etc. etc. Check it out or read it online.
