Default Replacing steering column

My factory steering column snapped on my '93 stang. Actually, the U-Joint snapped, I can still drive it fine but the steering wheel wabbles a little in the center. According to the chilton's manual it should be a pretty easy swap: 1) detach from firewall, 2) detach from steering box 3) reverse process to install. Should I stick with factory part or will a 3rd party part be cheaper, better, or easier to install? Also, does anyone have any experience doing this and if so do you have any advice? Thanks a bunch in advance for any info you can offer.

I've never done this particular swap but I think you'll be ahead using Ford parts from Ford dealer.
Also, you are aware that there is a wiring harness involved with a total swap-out so stay with the same year to avoid to much strangeness........

After re-reading post, I concur.
Rag joint can be had at a NAPA store and I'm sure it wouldn't be $20.....

rag joint = Ujoint?
I didn't think you could actually do that!
I seem to remember looking at the part and thinking that the whole column had to be replaced.
Thanks for all the info!

When you go after parts, just stay away from Pep Boys, Auto-Zone, Checker etc and go to quality place like NAPA, Car Quest etc....
