Default What engine combo should be used?

I'm getting ready to build a new engine for my buddy's 92 LX & looking for some input on what the best route to take is. Here's his current set-up: stock block w/ Performer Intake, 65mm TB, afr, pulleys, headers, off-road h-pipe, flowmaster exhaust, fresh AOD w/ 2200 converter & 3.73's. He wants around 350 ponies and has intentions of added a supercharger in a year or so. Budget is limited to approx $4500. This is his only car but he's in the military so it doesn't get driven every day but reliability is still a concern. I have a good lead on a low mileage stock block (his currently has 140K) that I could freshen up so the biggest question is should I go with that or is it worth the add'l 2 grand or so to stroke it to a 347 (kit & machine work). Also cam & head recommendations, which cam for a healthy street car and which heads, Trickflows, AFR's, Edelbrocks??? Thanks in advance!

CHP has a long block 306 dominator, afr 185's .565/.574 232/240 with a 112 lobe.460hp 400tq for $4300 though, but you get what you pay for. i hate to see both of you guys get screwed,or be dissapointed for lack of hp or qaullity. i think you can buy a sportsman block,d.s.s stroker or a 306 kit crank, rods, pistons, ect. afr's 165/185 for $3000,and put it together yourself, and have money left over for anythink else you need or want for the beast...thats what i did.don't know if that deal is still out there though.

add the performer heads a rebuild kit and machine work, around $2000.00 and get the S/C around $2500.00 he will be way over 350hp. But if you can get a good stroker kit and the machine work for 2k go for it and the perfomer heads with a cam with .550-.575 lift or something like that and a 200 shot of N02 and it should be a NOS kit should get you around 500hp+ when juicein and around 350hp when N/A

I've been reading a bunch about 331's, who has the best deals on these kits? Also I'm planning on buying a used bare block if I go the stroker route & curious what years can be used.

dss is one of the best, if not the best in the business. i plan to go there when i do my 347. and if you want as much power as possible, go with the 347. it doesnt cost any more and gives you more power. they have solved all of the oiling problems associated with the old ones, so i dont see any cons to it (except less gas mileage)
