Default Engine building question.

I was wondering how hard it is to assemble an engine. Im trying to decide if I want to put one together or not. I have the space and tools so thats not a problem. But my best friend and I are both mechanicaly inclined. And I would get a book or something with very through instructions.... Also if I go the route of buying a replacement. Do you think that a remaufactured engine with forged pistons would be as good as my stock one? Thanks

Carlo

Assembly is easy, it's the machining that you won't be able to do. What year is your engine, it may have Forged pistons, I think it was 90 they started using forged, correct me if im wrong.

oh well I was deff going to have a machine shop do the work because I want to make it a stroker. But I was going to assemble. My engine is a 92 and I know it has forged pistons but I need a new engine and was going to get a remanufactured one from Carolina Machine engine. I was just wondering if "their" engine would be as good as the one in there. Its a stock replacement.

Many times a quality rebuild will have lot better parts in it than what it came with from the factory.
And then sometimes not.
ask the rebuilder company for a list of what they put in them and ask for what brand something is. 'New' is not a brand.
Shop carefully as is are a lot of rebuilders out there, don't shop just by price......

Yeah I had a list of what they "do" to their engines just not what brands they use. I think Im just going to buy a new block and a stroker kit and assemble it myself. Itll be in a "weekend" car so it wont be needed.

they started using forged pistons in 87 and stopped in late 92. Then they went to hyperuetectic cast pistons.[:'(]
