Default Rear Brake?

I just replaced the rear brake shoes, and cylinders on my 1990 GT. They were in desperate need. Here's the problem. When I tried to bleed the brakes, no fluid came out and my buddy said the brake pedel never moved. I have an idea of what it could be, but I would like to see if maybe this has happend to any of you before and what you think it might be. Fluid did come out of the line when I pulled the metal line out of the cylinder, so it was getting fluid at some point.

Here's what I think could be wrong.
1. proportioning valve has gone bad.
2. dirt in the lines

How would you clean the system out if dirt did get in the lines?

How did your helper operate the pedal? Yes, the pedal will go to the floor; but did it come back up? If not; you lift it up & then depress again; over & over till you get a pedal. Did you keep the master cylinder reservior full? Did you crack the bleeders more than a 1\4 turn? If the line was plugged; you'd have pedal with no fluid comming out of the lines....

The pedal never moved when I opened the valve. I went as far as pulling the valve all the way out just to make sure. The brake cylinders, inside of the rear brake drum, are brand new and when I replaced them the lines had fluid dripping out of them.

He did like I told him. Pump it until the pedel gets hard to push, about 5 to 10 pumps and keep it pressed until I say let go. Which would be after I released the pressure on the valve and then retighten it.

If what you say is correct; yeah.... I'd be looking pretty hard at a kinked line to the back or a clogged proportioning valve myself.....

P.S. the proportioning valve can be taken apart, inspected, & cleaned if necissary. Just do like tranny builders; have a bench to lay it out in order & put it back together in reverse.....

Does anybody know how you would clear the brake lines if they are clogged?

I don't remember seeing any bent lines anywhere when I was looking the other night. I'm at work right now. I'll check later tonight.
