Default starter

i have a question, hopefully someone can help....i have a 86 LX 5.0 brand new motor...when i go to start it, sometimes the starter wont disengage when it starts...tuff too shut off too...what should i change?

Solenoid, your starter solenoid might be bad.

i replaced that about 2 months ago...but i guess it could of went bad???? is it possible the starter might be bad??

Possible, it might not be retracting all the way so its still spinning when the flywheel spins.

just get a new starter its only 50 bucks from autozone.

a lot of problems come from having flywheel teeth that are just slightly ground catching and holding starter teeth that are old... replace your starter in it's entirety and in the process make sure that your flywheel teeth are in good condition... if they are not it might be a good time to change your flywheel/clutch disc/pressure plate/throw out/pilot...

thanks for the help guys...but i have all brand new ...starter, king cobra clutch with a ford racing 10.5 fly wheel

did you shim the starter? maybe the bendix is binding on the flywheel and not letting it release, just a thought.
