Default RE: acceleration problem

I just did a search on TFI Modules on Fords and I was reading several peoples stories of their experiences with this problem. They mentioned driveability problems after an hour or so of driving and even stalling. I just remembered that when I drive my car for a long time that's when I lose power when accelerating. Thanks for the info I am going to monitor the TFI module also during my continued troubleshooting of this problem

Default RE: acceleration problem

Over the past week or two I have checked my fuel pressure which was 33 at idle and 40 at WOT. Then I replaced my TPS sensor with a brand new one, and replaced my distributor, 3 TFI modules, ignition coil, fuel filter, and I set the timing to 10 degrees. I also checked my vacuum at the fuel pressure regulator and it was at 20 and the regulator is working. I drove the car and the hesitation went away a little bit, but their is still a flat spot once I hit WOT. If I rev it at WOT in neutral it will rev up fast until I hit 3000RPM's and then take forever to get to the higher RPM's just like when I accelerate at WOT. I drove it about 2 miles with the spout connector disconnected to see if the computer was not advancing my timing at WOT but it still acted up. I cannot tell whether this is a fuel related issue or a RPM issue or a timing advance problem.

Their is a way to check the TFI modules, but I don't know how to. Probably an old Ford service manual might have procedures for that. My friend gave me one from his 87 GT and my father had 2 others laying around. One of them was a brand new Borg Warner TFI module.

when i had this problem in my 95 GT it was the cats on the xpipe were jammed up with crap from the upper silencer(or are they a 2nd set of cats?) on the stock 95 xpipes, i simply cut all 4 of them off, and welded some pipe back over them to fix the holes, ofcourse now im running cat-less so that may cause some problems for you in your state.

Yesterday afternoon I went over to a Ford dealership nextdoor to my workplace, and I told them everything that was going on and what I did. He told me to try and drive my car with the mass airflow sensor disconnected. I unplugged the connector for the MAF and drove 14 miles to my home and the car had no problems accelerating. It just idled kind of funny, but it drove the way it used to.No hesitation, sputtering, or backfiring. I am going ask my co worker if I could try his old MAF, drive it for a couple days and see if it acts up again.

Take out your MAF, get some carb cleaner and spray the MAF wire really well.
Maybe it's gunked with K&N oil or just dirty?

Today I fixed my car finally. I went to NAPA with my old MAF sensor and I bought a remanufactured one, put it in the car and it runs a lot better now. I thank you all for your help.
