Belt snaped
Well yesterday was a very bad day on my way home from work my serp belt snaped. Its only a month old, it was a good year gator back belt the ones that cost like 40 bones or more. i heard something flapping big time under the hood and i was almost home but i stoped to see what it was and i got on my knee and looked under the car and i could see there was only 2 ribs left on the belt, so i thought to myself ill take it really easy. well a mile later it snapped, i drove it untill it got to 190degreese and shut it down. then i had to push the SOB up a hill so i could drift it down the other side. about the time i started walking home with my car sittin on the side of the road my mom came past and saw me and gave me a ride thank god because it was like 95 out yesterday. the thing that stumps me is none of my pullies are locked up, eveything is free. i guess it was something wrong with the belt. then today to top it off i cut my finger open at work u could see the bone to. geez sry for the long post, im just a lil stumped as to y my belt came apart.

It's nice to see someone more concerned about their belt then the bone showing through on a finger slice.
Truly a MAN!
Hey, check to see (if you still have any belt remains left) the condition of the belt. I live just next door in New Mexico (Land of Dirt and no Water) and see a crap load of dryrot in the backside of belts (I'm a Service Tech). When this happens, it causes them to begin to stretch and that's where the proverbial "crap hits the fan." If the belt were dryrotted, then it would only be a matter of time before it breaks.
There should be signs of a belt beginning to crap on you on the actual ribbed surface of it. Were there any cracks or any marks of obvious destruction? If so then shame on you!!! I once had a belt on my POS F150 that was cracked to hell and back and lasted me like 2 years.
When I actually stopped thinking about "when it would break" it broke and left me stranded on I-25 between hell and a hotplace.
If there aren't any problems with your pulleys then it had to be the belt dying on you slowly.
Sorry about your finger, should have kept it out of the pickle slicer at Subway.
I hear she ain't worth it.

haha thats right i could not give 2 ****s about my finger but my car i care about
i was cuttin the tape off the wire basket at work and i sliped and cut my finger open about an inch and a half long and to the bone it hurt like a **** and blead like crazy. but nothing some duck tape and a shop towl cant fix.
yea i know how it goes lookinforastang i had to push that beast up a hill by myself and it was hot as hell.
yea i stoped a few times today on the way home from work and picked up the parts i could find, there are no cracks its looks like the ribs seperated from the backing.

Just wanted to say sorry about that cut finger, but it will grow back. Gator backs are good belts, but I would recommend that you verify that the belt was the right one. Make sure the number of "ribs" on the belt matches up with your pulley system. It could also have been too short or too long. If it is only one month old, it is not likely to be dry rotted. Good luck!
