I agree with HACK, 84 was a hell of a year. I've owned an 82, 83, 84, 85, 87 and now an 86, all were (are) pretty much stock. I'm not sure why, but the 84 (I owned it in 86, right off a dealer lot) was a monster. I don't think there were any mods to it, but it ran like an raped ape. The engine guy in dearborn must have been having a good day he built the engine in that 84!
I'd grab the 85 vert for 1500 though, can't go wrong at that price.
