it makes your accesories (spelling [&o] ) slower so that they don't rob as much power, so like your a/c, waterpump, and alternator will not work as well, but the engine will be more free.

To be clear...
Overdrive will driver the accessory MORE than normal, hence getting "more" of what you are driving..AC/PS/ALT/etc...
Underdrive is exactly what Valcore stated. It will underdrive whatever it is that you are connected to...hense the "free HP" since it isn't having to move that pulley as much.

. i've seen pulleys tested several times and i've never seen them gain less than 5 rwhp.
