Default AOD?

Is the AOD the stock automatic transmission or is it an aftermarket? How much power can it handle?...Also what is the stock compression on a 5.0 engine?

aod is the stock auto from '85-'93

what can it handle ???? w/ nothing at all done to it, the stock motor is too much for it.
od band is too small, shift points are too low, oiling is for ****, and the gearing sux

i went through 3 aod's on my '90 GT that i bought brand new, and never went faster than 14.30 or so

i believe stock compression is 9:1

Stock they suck. But I did make >600rwhp through a built one. However, I wouldn't spend that kind of money on one again.

Like everyone else said.... stock AOD; the stock motor puts out too much power for it. Mostly everything about them is sh*tty. If its a weekend car or something like that you could upgrade to a C4 (no overdrive thats why I said weekend car) or you can upgrade to a Lentech or something in that area. You can get a Lentech Street Bruiser w/ a custom stall for around $2,300. The tranny is also good for around 500-550 horsepower.

auto's I hear can handle more than the suggested 300 hp than the t-5's. however, the aod's still suck *****. unless u were to put in a stall or something like a ratchet shift kit. the're really weak and easy to break something.

some thing is wrong then i have a aod and a tci shift kit, and a slap shifter and if you learn to shift right u dont have to shift into od..a good rebuilt aod can handle 350 hp all day long...if u use like high energy clutches and band...a stock aod i have had them go along time on 350 hp...thats with occasional nitro too...lotsa folks build trannys but justa few build them right...

The AOD in the Fox Mustangs are prone to O/D failure.

Theres several companies that reman the AODs to handle high(er) HP applications and still retain overdrive function.... TCI, Performance Automatic, Lentech, etc... are a few that come to mind. Some companies reman them for very high HP applications, but alot of times they do away with the overdrive function... if you're going to do that you might as well get a C4... they're lighter.

Main things these transmissions replace are the bands with kevlar ones, they add more and stronger clutches to the drumpacks. Many times they also add a stronger input shaft and replace the valvebody or add a (real) shift kit to the stock one. All this should easily make it good for over 300hp and still maintain overdrive functionality.
