Default waterpump problem

anybody have any problems with aluminum water pump? I bought one and a new timing cover and put it all back together and the waterpump is leaking near the two bolts at the bottom that hold on that aluminum plate. I was told they are notorious for leaking... is this true. If so what should I do besides the standard gasket and sylicone?

There are two different gaskets for the water pumps, make sure you used the ones for a HO engine. I had this problem awhile back with a hacked together motor.

I used no silicone and cleaned the surfaces real well and using Fel-Pro gasket. If you do need to seal it use "The Right Stuff" sealer, then you can run it right away.

hi there, some manufacturers make the heads of the 2 bolts that hold on the backing plate too long and it bends out the bottom of the pump making it leak.
grind down the tops of the bolts and use silicone as well as the gaskets.
I like permatex ultra black, you can reassemble it and fill it and it wont leak.
the right stuff gasket maker is good, but I find it dries too fast.
