Default Engine Shaking!!

91GT 160k Miles and 40k miles on generic rebuilt engine.

Engine shakes when between 1200 and 2000 rpm, doesn't matter if the car is not moving and the clutch is pushed in still shakes...

I'm think flywheel or harmonic balanancer?

Maybe something more simple? Help!!!!

Checked the Motor Mounts and they seem ok.

Runs great, no loud noises and will still smoke the tires.....

Id start with simple things like a shifted belt in the tire or a bubble in the sidewall??Then go towards other things such as flywheel which is unlikely unless the weights fell off.Could be the clutch. Are your lugs tight??

After reading the rest of the post [&:]I see you said it does it sitting still which would make me think balancer or bad shaft in the tranny??

Sounds like your balancer. I went w/ the Prof. Products balancer and spacer from 50resto...it was $79, but it's a much nicer piece than stock.

Ok, FYI it was happening when the car was not moving so I know it isn't a tire/suspension issue.

Is there something that can go bad in the balancer or is just a chunk of steel?

Thanks

The balancer is a hub and a steel ring around with a rubber sandwich in between them.

So I guess the rubber could deteroriate and cause the balance to be affected....
