starter problems on 5.0
hi,
i have a 1984 mustang vert, the person i got it from replaced the 4-banger with a '89 5.0. The problem i am having is it won't turn over. I have replaced the starter motor and when it turned over the starter motor didnt stop running. I have put a new starter solenoid on it. The manual talks about a fuseable link? Could this be the problem?
Thanks for any help!

i'm a little lost. you replaced the starter and then when you tried to start it the starter would not stop spinning? it;s posible that the Ign switch is shorting and letting voltage feed through the selinoid wire to the starter. can you disribe the problem a little more?
does it only stay engauged after you try starting it or just when you turn the key on or what? if it's on all the time when the battery is on you could have the main feed and the selinoid wires touching at the starter. you said you had the seliniod rebiuld. it;s poiible thats causing it. you need to get under there and see if there is power on the small selinoid wire when the key is off. if the power shuts off when the key goes off it;s internal in the starter. if it stays on I would start with the IGN switch
yea thats what happened and it didn't cut off (the key was out of the ignition) until the starter burned up. the solenoid clicks and thats it. what more would you like to know?
From the start of the problem
when the problem started both the hot and ground wires coming off of the battery were hot, smoke was coming from the starter solenoid (from fuseable link wire). replaced solenoid and starter motor, when i went to crank the car it turned over, and starter motor kept spinning, when I took the key out it still spun until it burned up.
