RE: Engine swap....And now problems. HELP!!!
ok the cap and rotor are also new...i put them on the motor when it was in my old car and it was used for about a month. The fuel isnt too old, maybe about a month or a little less. the filter is alos brand new. the wires shouldnt be bad because they were workin good a couple weeks ago on the motor i blew. i have not pulled any codes on it yet because i would have to take it to a shop for that and i wanna see if i can fix it myself first. it doesnt really seem like its backfiring, more like a misifire or something. very rough is the best way i can describe it. and i have went over the firing order many times makin sure all the wires are on the right cylinders.
and as for the smog i removed the pump and the big tube that comes out of it. and sealed up the back up the heads.
my guess would be vacuum too. how were u sayin to check for that? i was thinkin too just hook up a boost gauge.

i would defintely check for vacuum leaks. also check your MAF maybe it isnt working correctly and its causing the engine to dump little or alot of fuel in causing it to run rough. theres lots of variables to go by. if we only had a video to see how it was running.

take carb cleaner or starting fluid and spray it around the vacume hoses and around the t body and intake gaskets (even base). if the engines rpm changes than you will have found a leak.

If you are still running the stock coil those bosh platinum 4s you say your running are the problem, even the platinum 2s are almost too much for the stock coil and dizzy to handle..
The platinum fours will pretty much only work in stock applicstions when its a coil over plug set-up.
Buy some cheep platinum 1s or autolites and MAKE SURE THE GAP IS CORRECT before installing. If you checked all you vacume leaks and your intakes are properly tightened and sealed this will probly solve the problem.. you'll be surprised trust me..

Remember stock ignition components are always recommended as aftermarket can pose problems on occasion. Anyway it definately sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. And you should be able to run free diagnostics at autozone. Chris
