what certain tool is that? ive always just used an impact and had no problems.
Im leaning torwards thinking hes talking about a dial indicator....so you can set the wear patterns...

The most important tool you will need is a pinion depth guage. Get a shim kit as well and a marking crayon. In the end once its set up a dial indicator to check for excessive ring gear run-out.

Pinion depth is easy to figure out first you look at your pinion gear it will have a no. on it like 2 or -2 you get the point. Take the bearing off of original pinion gear and use the shim as a base line. If factory gears have no number or a zero then add or take away the number on the new gear TADA you know what shim you need for the new one.

Old gear number -1
New gear number +2
measure orig pinion shim .035" thick (example only) Pinion depth would be .034" variance is -.001
shim needed for new gear .036 Math is easy!

I would get a short throw shifter if you dont already have one besides the granny shifter that comes stock
