AOD Help Needed
Ok, i finally got back around to dropping the transmission and reseating the torque converter. It still doesn't want to do right and continues to bind. Are the shafts (output from engine or input to transmission) different lengths for different year cars? I know I have a 93 GT mustang. Does this make a difference... Im about to pull my hair out and i'm ready to get it on the road. Someone give me some insight here... If i have to spend money on it i'm tempted to just swap to a 5spd.
94 and 95 aods have a different length input shaft compared to the rest but otherise it souldnt. i know its a pain for c4's tring to find the right syle converter but i dont think aod's could be that hard
I pulled my AOD out after losing to a MKIV TT Supra b/c it upshifted at like 3K rpm when I was in the middle of 2nd. Mine was so bad I could rev it in gear on a hot day. I put in a TKO500 and love it.
the torque converters are the same for all AOD trannys. i build converters for a living. explain to me whats binding exactly. it sounds like you didnt get the hub seated in the pump properly. and/or you have a broken pump gear. also make sure your lockup shaft is properly seated in the trans. (its the innermost shaft on the trans.)
when we bolt it up you goto start it and it wont turn over, it just clicks, and moves the crank about a 1/4 inch... like the driveline is in some sort of bind and wont let it start. Same thing happened a few weeks ago when i initially went to install the tranny, i'd link to the post but search is messed and wont let me find it. How can i make sure that the TC and shafts are properly seated.
well if the pump is ok the converter should engage in usually two steps. spin it as you slide it on. u can pull the lockup shaft out and slide it back in just make sure the splines engage. ill bet your pump is whacked. its very common. you mightve not gotten the converter all the way on. look at the flats on the hub those drive the pump and engage only one way if they were misaligned then you whacked the pump. and most likely damaged the hub of the converter. if its just the pump and converter the repair wont be too much. find a reputable trans shop and see what they say.
