86 GT 5 speed Vs. 99 dakota 5.9r/t?
my sisters friend just got this 99 dakota r/t. it has exhaust and and cold air intake... he wants to race my 5.0 when i get the clutch in it.. all i got is exhaust and intake.. and a lil bit of timming adjustment.. anybody know what these trucks run?... and.. if i got a chance? my quickest time at the track so far has been a 15.3 at 92 mph with no traction through 1st.. judging by my 2.6 60 foot times.
hmmm really?.. i knew they were quick for a truck.. but i wasnt sure.. well.. maybe when i do the clutch i will do the gears at the same time... maybe that will help out a lil.
I used to have a 99 Dakota R/T with True dual flowmaster exhaust, cold air intake and a chip and i would run 15.5's at the track all day long spinning the tire for about 80 feet. Track was never good on street nights so i never really got to hook up and make a solid run. Tried easing into the gas leaving but it still ran about the same if not slower so i would just put it to the floor. But yeah they are pretty quick but you shoudl def be able to beat it. I have a 89Lx now with a few engine mods and 3.73's and i know it feels faster than the Dakota.
In stock form, the 5.9's are piggish (read that as bottled up), but mods wake them up pretty quick. The r/t will have a lot more power than you, but he's also got at least 700 #'s on you, too. My friends 3.9 v6 dakota weighs 4k, so the larger motor and whether it's extended cab will add more to it.
You should beat him, but the driver mod is always a factor.
