Won't start when cold

Won't start when cold
We have an 88 Mustang 5.0 GT. The car cranked and cranked, but wouldn't fire. Gas is getting into the fuel log and power is getting to the injectors. I could take the air inlet off and spray starting fluid in the intake and it will start. The car will run from that point on. If you rev it up it wants to die, but if you let it idle until it warms up it will run just fine. Any ideas.

RE: Won't start when cold
I'd try that as it seems your problem is when the car is in open loop. The system is not adaptive in that mode so I'd be interested if there are codes - especially since it's fine in closed loop.

Edit: I meant to ask - have you done anything to the car? It's still SD, right?
