open element

open element
People have told me that open elements are better. My air filter is enclosed inside this big thing on top of my TBI. There is also this 3 in plastic hose running from where the air filter brings in air to on of the headers. So could i still get an open element, and what advantages do open elements have. And again yes i know this is a mustangforum, the camaroforums sucks and nobody ever responds. Thanks

RE: open element
two schools of thought. An open element inside the engine bay can decrease hp, because it is sucking in hot air. I read that for every 10 degrees of hot intake air, you sacrifice 1 hp. I may have read that on kenn belles web site, but anyway, I also believe that if you put the open element inside the fender well, like I have now, you are sucking in cooler air, hence, cold air intake. However, this sucks because every time it rains hard, my element sucks in water and my pony spits and sputters. It only does this while I am driving in a heavy downpour, but in in OK, you never know what the weather is going to do. I have new hood that will allow more air to flow under the hood, and when I get it on, I have a new 9" k&n I was planning to put back on. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Welcome to board bowtie boy! J/K, have fun.
