Default Timing Please help

I ve been putting alot of bolt ons to my 91 gt i still have the all stock internals and cam....I was wonder what i should advace my timing to ??? is it 18 degreess or what please respond thanks....mustangkid

I would set it to 14* first and see how it runs at WOT. If you don't hear any pinging, then you can advance it more if you chose. If you DO hear pinging, then set it back a bit and you should be all set. Just remember to run the higher octane gasoline. No more 87 and no cheating and going with 89. 91+ only

Oh, and don't be a dumbass like me. remember to remove the spout connector when you do it

You should be able to run 13-14 degrees with no pinging on 87 octane. I didnt have any problems but upgraded to 89 anyway just to be on the safe side. There is a tech article in the stickies. Check it out.

Just bumped mine to 16* on 87 octane (10% ethanol) and have no pinging whatsoever. In terms of what it gave me, probably a small performance gain but also a much smoother running vehicle.

Going from 6* to 14* I honestly think I gained 20hp...seriously. I run 89 octane, and have no pinging ever. I can't decide whether to bump it up some more, or just leave it where it is and try some 87 octane and save a dollar per fillup. You can buy a bag of Fritos with that.

supposedly you gain 3-4 hp per degree of timing.

i felt it when i bumped mine up.
