Default Project car!

Ok guys, I'm wanting to get into a fun, cheap drag car. I'm buying a 351W and am looking for a cheap like 84-90 5.0. The 351W is from a truck so stock 5.0 heads will fit right? Also, will the stock 5.0 cam fit? Transmission? I'm almost sure they will but before I go getting into it I want to make sure. Also, apparently junk yards in my area don't carry alot of old 5.0's. The car basicly needs to be a total craper with a desent frame. Does anyone know where I could look or find one for in the 300-500 $ range? Also, the engine doesn't need to run but the heads have to be good.

Thanks guys!

Doubt you'll find a V8 stang for under 500 bucks, your best bet would be to find a broke down 4cyl. Yes 5.0 heads would work on a 351w and so would the tranny, but the cam would only work if its a 351w from a Lighting (roller block) or you get a roller conversion kit to convert a non-roller block to roller.

Err, doubt it for $500 like ^^^ said. But hey, you never know. I personally wouldn't drop that nice of an engine into a $500 car.

Yea but hopefully it's gonna fly after I gut everything out. I know where a $400 dollar 4cyl. is but, I figured getting a tranny, heads and everything would be more than I wanted to spend. What do you guys think?

you need to find a 5.0 Stang or else you'll just blow the tranny or rear end out of anything else with that 351 engine as they don't have the strength needed to stand up to the 351. you also need to be concerned about the brakes and front suspension due to the extra weight of the 351 vs the 5.0 motor.

I think it's about 50 lbs heavier than a 5.0, but a ton heavier than a 4 or 6 banger which would be a real problem as far as the front suspension and brakes are concerned. you have to remember that the weight transfers to the front when braking and you need bigger brakes and springs/shocks to handle this weight transfer in order to safely stop the car with a bigger engine.

How weak is the 4cyl. rear end and what size? New front springs can be bought out of the junk yard but 4cyl springs are good for weight transfer right? Can a stock old fox body rear end withstand hard launches on slicks? lol

lol I guess what I'll break I'll have to replace. It's proably not going to last too long. If I get the 4banger will the clutch cables and everything hook up? Fuel Lines? How much do you guys think I can get a tranny for from the junk yard?

Vfast- You did this didn't you or was that hotrod man?
