Default Engine Swap

So right now, i have a 92 5.0 with a built 302 in it. I came across a ford lighting engine out of a wrecked one, that i can get for 2k. So the price is right, i was just wondering about the difficulty level of the swap and how much work does it require. I know it is possible, but i dont know how hard it will be, just wondering if it is worth it. The lighting engine is pushin about 550 hp..... Any help would be great.

if you are talking the first gen lighning 351's you would need a mustang oil pan, and headers. i find it hard to believe the lighnings motor is pushing 550 hp, they were only 240hp stock.

Yeah the engine has a lot of work done to it. Out of a 03 or 04 HD edition. He was going like 140 and rolled the truck out of the alaskan way viaduct in Seattle.... so I dont know if that is 1st gen or what.... Hope that helps to help me with what i need to do.

its more work than its worth. you need a k member, origional tranny, the complete wiring harness with origional computer, custom headers, all origonal emissions equiptment, custom driveshaft, a minimum of a 6" cowl hood (a 4" needs to be cut as the blower sticks out). its been done by a few shops but its usally to much for most people. figuring out how to mate the hd's wiring harness with your fox will be a nightmare.

no the first generation lightnings (the only real lightnings in my opinion) were 351's, i though you were talking about those.

THats the Over head cam edition....thats alot of work to swap into a 5.0.

Like mrbigshot basically said...its a b*tch and your going to get in over your head unless you've done alot of difficult swaps.
