Not sure what you're asking. Do you want to be shift it manually? To do this, you need a different valve body. Lentech sells valve bodies for stock AODs that allows you to shift manaully or automatically with OD delete switch. http://www.lentechautomatics.com/aodproducts.htm

I recommend the B&M Hammer ratchet shifter. Check out the thread below:
https://mustangforums.com/m_1790802/tm.htm

I put pics of what mine looked like in there. Works great and you never have to worry about skipping over a gear when using it.

he can do it manually without a manual valve body...or at least sort of. If he shifts too early it wont actualyl change gears. But if he wants to wait a bit longer to shift, he can still do it without changing to a manual valve body.

tha B&M hammer is about $200 give or take. And you can install it yourself fairly easily. As far as the manual valve body it isn't 100% necessary depending on what you want to do. If you just want to hold the gears longer and wait a bit longer to shift, I wouldn't bother with it yet unless you wanted it. Just install a nice shift kit in the AOD tranny and keep the valve body you have.

If I go WOT, I can shift from 1 to 2 to 3 with no problems. It will even chirp the tires between 1 - 2 and sometimes from 2 to 3 depending on the conditions.

Why not just convert over to a T5?

You can shift your gears manualy with one of those i think

LoL, if you're gonna go as far as tossin in a manual valve body, shifter, etc... might as well just swap over and get some HP back
