Default Stupid Question about Shi

When you speed shift, you back off the gas while shifting as fast as you can, then get back on it. Power shifting is leaving the gas to the floor while shifting. (don't miss third or it's all over for your tranny).

I wouldn't recommend powershifting, ever, unless you've got a sequential dog box (or an automatic).

when you power shift you are only placing your weak t-5 to massive stresses which really only gain you about a tenth of a second, my suggestion to you is use the clutch</P>

You do use the clutch, you just use it QUICKLY. If you don't use the clutch, you would have to back off the gas to get it to shift.

You don't want to be holding the gas to the floor and jamming gears WITHOUT using the clutch. Go to a drag strip and listen. You'll notice the guys that are speed shifting by the lack or reduction in engine noise when they shift. The guy power shifting will be full bore between shifts, sounds almost like an automatic. I can upshift or downshift all day without using the clutch, but it depends on engine rpm. Watch the nascar in-car camera shots of the footwork the drivers do on road courses. They ALWAYS use the clutch to upshift, but rarely use it to downshift. This is because they can do it as the rpm's are falling before entering a turn. I repeat, DO NOT power shift without the clutch.

Default Stupid Question about Shi

What will give you a potentially faster 1/4 mile time? Power or Speed Shifting?

You can gain a couple of tenths by power shifting as opposed to speed shifting, as you don't have to back off the gas and then get back in it. The better you get, the faster you go. Get used to speed shifting fast, where you rarely miss shifts, then try power shifting. You'll notice the difference.
