Default RE: Tips to pass emissions

i've heard some optimistic people say it can be done by retarding the timing and some other things but i doubt it... for the most part o/r=no cats=no pass

Default RE: Tips to pass emissions

It took me 4 attempts to get my 87 N/A to pass emissions.

The first test I drove the car in as I had been driving it for several years. No CAT, but no codes for EGR, etc.

Baseline Test
_______Tested____Limit_____Result
Cruise___160______160______Pass
Idle_____709______220______FAIL!!!
Other than the lack of cats the car was in good running condition.

Re-Test #2
_______Tested____Limit_____Result
Cruise___142______160______Pass
Idle_____650______220______FAIL!!!
Added New O2 Sensor, increased tire pressure to 52psi, disconnected fan to get engine hotter (good for reducing HC). Had run "Guaranteed to Pass" in previous tank (followed directions)

Re-Test #3
_______Tested____Limit_____Result
Cruise___173______160______FAIL!!!
Idle_____551______220______FAIL!!!
Replaced Factory N/A short block with Used Factory Turbo Block. This was due to a hole in Piston #4.

Re-Test #4
_______Tested____Limit_____Result
Cruise___44_______160______FAIL!!!
Idle_____61_______220______FAIL!!!
Installed NEW Catalytic Converter from MagnaFlow. At test I had ~125 miles on the new cat.

Nothing I did got me even close to passing emissions UNTIL I installed the catalytic converter.

This is why I don't recommend trying to pass without a cat. Your just pissing in the wind.

Just move to Kansas... No tests at all here. Plus, if you find a car thats been sitting (untagged and unregistered) for 7 years, anyone can claim it and get a title for it!

I don't have emissions in southern part of illinois. I think it's mostly just in the big cities. If you didn't mind working on cars, you could just change engines every 2 years . Have one for passing & one for normal. 5.0 for 5.0 isn't that hard of a swap. I think the worst part is the exhaust. [&:]
+ it'll give you a chance to clean out under the hood

Look at how pretty that doesn't look [:@]
