Default bad noises

since my head was so messed up from that lower intake bolt breaking in it, i just put a different head on. alot easier then messing with that damn bolt. so we put the new upper and lower on, but... there is a loud clacking noise. we took the upper and valve cover off to check the rockers, the are stock, everything seemed to be good. put it back together and same thing but the car didnt stay running more then 10 seconds. we didnt try starting it again. any ideas?
