Default question about heads

There is a set of 351W heads in my dads garage right now that he is not going to use. They need to be cleaned up for sure but I have thought about buying them from him. My mods are in my sig, I basically have a stock 5.0 motor with CAI and 14* timing. With the 351W heads be an instant help or do I have to do other mods to even get them to work at all? If so what mods?

don't use them, larger chambers = lower compression = lower HP. I think there are a few older castings from 69 or so that are better.

If I was eventually going to go with a S/C would they be good for that type of application? Looking at a KB blower down the road.

For the price of aftermarket heads you'd be far better off with some aluminums.

I might not have to pay anything for them, my dad might just want to get them out of his garage. Just looking to see if it would be worth taking them. Is there anything I could change to make up for the larger combustion chamber?

There's no reason to use iron heads besides price...aluminums make way more power, can be ported easier, disappate heat faster and can be fixed easier if you have a serious issue...you can use a real thin head gasket to get some more compression but i dont think it will make a noticeable difference.

I agree, get the heads for free, sell them on ebay, use the cash for a set of aluminum GT40 heads, or trickflow, edlebrock, etc. Those heads really only should be on a 351w...

you can millthem down for compression, but newer like 80s late 70s 351w heads are no better then 302...late 60s early 70s are best heads bigger ports and smaller ccs

DOOE castings are the same exact thing as gt40 iron heads. although you will need to do a valve job, replace the valve seats w/ hardened for unleaded gas, and might as well port them a bit...for a small amount of money you can make a pretty big gain.

if the heads are not '69/'70 you don't want them for anything.

only the DOOE castings...thats it
