gear question
i was thinking about getting 3.73 but was wondering how much difference in the quart mile will it make? how much of a difference going by "seat of the pants" feel? and as a daily drive, the all important question, how much am i going to loose on my miliage?
i was told i could go to a .8:1 in my trans. 4th gear to help get better free way millage. i was hoping to drive out to vegas next summer and if im going to get about 10mpg, its not worth it
oh ya, if it helps, i get about 14mpg now.

RE: gear question
Yeah 14mpg sucks REALLY bad. I have 3.73 gears..... and I have an auto(for now, it sucks but hey....) And I get about 19 mpg.. Ive never ran my car w/o the 3.73 gears so I dont know how much 1/4 mile time it wil get you......

RE: gear question
14 mpg????
I would put my car on the computer to see if any sensors were bad...
my car supercharged is getting 18+ mpg.
Check your O2 sensors.-good possibility.
By the way,3.73:1 gears are great.

RE: gear question
alright, ill have my o2 sensors checked next week but is there anything else i should check while im at it? i know for a fact that the car runs lean. does this tell me anything? and when i say lean, i mean the smog test showed almost no emissions coming out the pipes.
i never thought 14mpg was bad just cause my friends 5.0 gets about 7mpg but he has a LOT more done to his car.
well i went back and relized its 16mpg. thats not too bad....is it?

RE: gear question
3.73's with a light foot on the gas won't hurt you crusing mileage all that much at all, it's around town driving with a heavy foot that ruins the gas mileage. I used to average over 20 mpg with my auto and 3.73's in the rear but I didn't race off of every stop light I came to either. My Stang picked up about .4-.5 secs in the 1/4 with the 3.73 gears and they really woke up the car on the street too.

RE: gear question
see thats the thing, i have a heavy foot. not too bad but it will be a factor. i have the car in the dealship to put in headers and a catless hpipe right now. i told him to just check my o2 sensors while they were at it to see if they were ok

RE: gear question
heavy foot = lighter wallet[:@]
lighter foot = heavier wallet
Didn't think that dealership could legally install off road H pipes? One near me several years ago told me they could even install new rear gears because they would affect the emissions and they were subject to federal fines if they did so.
