Ok so my girlfriends car is a 92 5.0 mustang.. She said it felt like she slammed on the brakes in it tonight and now it wont engage into gear.. What could be the problem?

Auto? 5speed?

It slamming on the brakes could be a problem somewhere in the brake assembly, but since it won't go into gear, makes me think something in the transmission is the cause of this.

 

If it is an Auto I'd say it's the torque converter. I had a dodge mini van that the torque converter lock up on and it was just like she said.

It won't go in any gear? When you push the clutch in and try to put it in gear does the car move?

 

i'd inspect the clutch first, then move onto the tranny, give us some more details on the symtoms

 

Im going to go look at the car here in about an hour or so.. so ill post some more details later.. I was just going off of what my g/f said so far.

 

So i went to see what was actualy wrong with the car today.. I have no idea what is wrong.. You can start the car fine but then when you put it in gear and try to go it just sits there like its not in gear.. Any ideas?

 

does the stick feel like its in gear? like... can you tell the gear is engaging?
