331 NEED HELP
I recently bought a 67 mustang with a 1978 302 block. After realizing how crappy it ran i decided to rebuild the engine and learn how to do it as I went. I stroked it out 30 over to a 331 and bought new edelbrock victor jr heads, performer rpm intake, roller camshaft lifters and rockers, and a crank pistons and rod kit on summit. It seems that all i need to finish building the bottom end is the push rods. How do i get the measurement for these? What do i need to put together first in order to get a measurement?
Also I took the heavy FMX out of the car and am looking into getting a t-5. Ive read Ford muscle's tech articles outlining the swap and am wondering if this is a good idea figuring my car, or if i should stick with an automatic such as the aod? When i bought the camshaft from summit the tech depart told me it was for a auto tranny with a 2500 stall. Can I still use this cam with a T-5?
I jumped into this rebuild knowing nothing and these forums have been great in keeping my hopes up and helping me get through it. i appreciate any info I can get. Thanks.

I'm also wanting to know how to determine correct pushrod length. I'm guessing that a T5 isn't going to do you much good, 350+hp tends to eat them up pretty quickly. Take a look into a Tremec 3550 or a TKO, depending on your power output
Here is a pretty good article to help understand how to check for correct pushrod length Click Me!
You would pretty much need to put the whole rotating assembly. Crank, camshaft, heads (complete with rocker arms, springs & valves installed), timing chain.
I agree with LTnone that if you want to put in a manual transmission you should look into something stronger than a T-5.
Yes your cam will work with a manual transmission. They were just telling you that with an automatic they recommend a stall converter.

dont forget to notch your block at the piston sleeve area. This is because the stroke is larger and the rods will hit the block when rotating. And the size you need depends on the pistons and crank you have.
yeah i have a 331 stroker..i ate up a new t5..in like 2 months.. you wont last on a t5 if you are a lil pedle happy..i went to a AOD beefed hard and a custom edge racing stall...kevlar internals and input shaft a manual VB...spent less then what a tremec would have cost...i have a ford ratio gear set in mine ttoo.. tremecs are great too..
