Default Header Wrap

I just bought some header wrap to put on my headers because my spark plugs keep melting. Anyways, i was reading on the net that they will damage the headers because it traps the high heat in the headers causing it to get to hot. Is this true?

I dont think itll damage it, as all it is, is tubing usually. Itll actually help you make more power. For every 4* that you can cool the engine compartment you gain 1hp. Obviously theres a limit to this but itll definitly help at full operating temperature.

also its good for protecting your plug wires, i melted a damn plug wire in half a couple weeks ago, even with little boots on the end of my plug wires. finally getting my new ones, taylor 10mms, this winter im going to throw header wrap on them because i dont wanna ruin these plug wires haha.

i have not heard of that but it might be true. i have had friends use it with no problems though. you could also get shield sleeving for your spark plug wires.

shield sleeving? right now i have these things on there, they are kinda like cloth but they have this coating stuff on them, dont really know how to explain it. they cover the bottom portion of the plug wire, probably about the last 4 inches or so. is that what you're talking about? if not i want to hear about this

It would take a really long time and alot of wet wrap to cause it to rot through the headers. I have heard the same thing about header wrap, but never seen an actual case. I have it on my hearders. I wouldn't think to much into it.

its not the wetness of the wrap, but that it traps moisture in btwn the wrap and the header causing corrosion faster than if they were open...if you wrap your headers you want the stainless ceramics.

I was going to take the opposite approach...
If you have any coating at all, avoid wrap.

I have been using header wrap for about 5 years on my mac shorties with no ill effects. I live in moisture rich Seattle.

Headers are going to rust. Regardless of whether or not they are wrapped.

I too had issues with burning plug wires.
I switched to 90* plub boots (stock are 45*)
and used a plug wire insulator.

No more burned plugs
