Default Which headers??

Ok... im wanting to get a set of headers, but i dont really know which ones to go with... i heard they all give you about the same gains, also heard that the longtube headers were better if you're looking for more torque... What do you guys think?? and what brand??

Default RE: Which headers??

I personally have shorty's on mine but thats because I bought the car like that...but If I bought with stock headers, Id definately throw a set of LT's on there. The gains will be pretty much the same but the LT's give the car a deeper sound. But one advantage about shorty's is that theyre bolt right in without fabricating

Ok whatever you decide to go with. This is just my personal advise of what happened to me on my 1991 gt. I had bbk equal lenth shorties installed. It rubbs on the steering column. My steering wheel is very stiff. I had to get a set of poly mounts and modify them with shims to raise up the motor off of the colomn. You cant change the last spark plug on the passenger side......no room. I would go with longtubes.

Longtubes arnt worth the extra hassle of putting them in unless your very heavly modded(FI). Id just stick with shorty's

Why is that? They'll put down more power thru-out the powerband than any shorties will, even on a mostly stock motor. They aren't a necessity, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth it. Just stay w/ 1 5/8" diameter.... BBK's are great.

On the other side of that, shorties will be cheaper b/c you won't have to buy a new H/X pipe. FRPP makes great shorties that are stainless, so they won't ever corrode.

Whatever headers you choose, stay away from Mac and other brands that don't have a flange connecting the primaries. It's not a big deal if you are never going to remove them again: the primaries will warp w/ the heat exposure and be a PITA to put back on if/when you do.
