Default Alternator

So, my battery keeps dying. I need a new alternator. I have pulleys on the car, as well as an 1100watt amp, pushing 2 10" subs. My voltage meter reads like 9 volts when the car is running, even at 2000 rpms. My headlights are always dim, and sometimes i can't run the heater and the amp at the same time. What's my best bet? I found 130 amp alternators on ebay, for 189 bucks a piece. Is that a good deal? Is there a better method to this?

Not only that, but this crap cost me a windshield. I had to jump my car in the rain, and in my haste to get back into the car I forgot my damned hood pins! Ouch!

well, you can goto summit and get a powermasters 140 amp alternator, there 2g so you wont have to modify your alternator bracket & just dont use the underdrive alternator pulley, you wont notice a diff anyways, use the pulley that comes on it. the pm amps are actually rated higher then 140 though, when i got mine, it was rated at 153, and same with grabbem's. its awesome because its only a 1 wire alternator. most of your drag comes from your crank and the other comes from the water, hardly any drag from the alternator pulley so you really wont notice a performance diff by using the stock alt. pulley.

OK, for starters, your 1100 watt amp should be fine with the stock alt unless it has just crapped out. I wouldn't buy the cheap high output alts on ebay because all I hear are they're junk from my car audio forum. An easy and inexpensive upgrade to an audio system is the "Big 3." Run 3 different runs of 1/0 awg wire as follows:

1. Alternator Positive to Battery Positive.
2. Battery Negative to Chassis
3. Chassis to Engine Block

I will almost guarantee this will solve any charging/dimming issues you may have!!!!!!!

Alrighty, I'll check that out. Thanks. I don't know, though, cause I've had slight charging issues since getting the car. The voltage meter has always read a little on the low side.

are you sure the alternator is shot? When the car is running just pull off a battery terminal, if the car shuts off, your alt is shot. If you get anything, just dont get the one wire upgrade, i got that and the car ran like ****, switched back to stock style and it worked just great.

I ogt a 100amp GM 1 wire And it works great. All I had to do is do a littel drilling and mount it and hook up the charging wire from the alt to the battery

got a one wire too and it works fine. did put a capicitor in for my amp though. so the headlights wouldn't dim and fuel pump wouldn't bog when the subs are loud....
