Default Steering Issue

Hey guys,

Im having a problem with my steering its just like my last one but opposite. My mustang has been lowerd by the previous owner and for some reason my steering has more travel to the left then the right. The rim will touch and rub the lower control arm on the left but not the right. Is this a common problem when a 5.0 mustang is lowered? what could it possibly be? A mechanic who im going to see in ohio thinks it could possibly be a bent control arm? Could it be because the car has been lowerd it has offset the steering? Let me know what you guys think.....

it is a possibility that the backspacing available for the rim has changed, or as least the rim size. is the steering wheel centered when you say it has more travel? center the wheel and check out the tire, obviously it should be pointing straight forward. if its not, you need to get it aligned. get it aligned first, maybe even a custom alignment with a little camber in, and then start checking out possible bad parts.

You need to install a rack limiter bushing. I had a similar problem on my wifes 90 vert. That took care of it. It a simple fix that can be purchased here

Thats not the problem tho... my last one did the same thing on 15in stock steels! it was lowered at thats it! something is wrong... my new one has 16inch rohs rims on it thats it so i dont see any reason why it should rub 1 1/2 turns to the left and 1 1/4 turns to the right....

I'm sorry bud I beg to differ. I garruntee you it's the problem. My wifes stock 10 holes rubbed. I put 1 limiter in the side that rubbed, problem solved. Your car, do what you want. Lemmie know how much that guy pokes you for and then the problem is still there. The reason it's rubbing is b/c it has too much steering travel on one side.

I have no idea... i bought the car and it was lowerd by the previous owner all i know is im raising it back to stock height and taking it from there... this is retarded the rim should not rub! its only 16inchs yet many people run 17+ and dont rub at all... something is off i should not have 1 1/2 turns to the left 1 1/4 turns to the right.... take my word for it... its not an allignment the last one had the same problem i had it alligned and the problem continued!

Yes you could do that. It would involve taking off the outer tie rods, possibly removing the steering wheel to center it, than measuring and reinstalling the tie rods then an alignment. Much too much trouble IMO!!!
