331 Build-Up
I am buying the 331 stroker kit from scat but i dont know if i should get the cast or forged crankshaft. the engine is n/a. but it has a cam that can hit 7000 rpm. can a cast crankshaft handle this rpm or should i get off my cheap butt and spring for the forged ($200 extra)?
stock block? even the stock cast crank will outlast the stock block. MOST of the time a cast crank is sufficient, as far as street cars go. what kind of power are you looking to make?
yeah stock block. I am using Edelbrock Performer RPM heads 2.02/1.60 valves (i got a great deal) and the comp cams hydrualic flat tappet camshaft xe284 2300-6500 rpm (240/240 @050 0.541/544 lift.) Victor jr intake. holley 650 double pumper. 10:1 compression ratio. estimates on power? comments and suggestions welcomed.
azpete, you will get more than 1 rwhp, but less than 999. now turning off the sarcasm its just to hard to even try to give estimates on rwhp just knowing the parts, i mean what will your timing be at, what are you runing for a tranny, headers, cats, will it be tuned, what octane are you going to run, do you have a cai, a spacer plate inbetween your carb and manifold? just to many variables.
well i'm kinda new at the stang stuff, i am trying to get a ballpark thats all. I am hope it wont be 1hp and 999hp is a little much for the street. so i'm hoping for 400 at the crank and so we can at least remove the tranny as one of those many variables. turning of the sarcasm. I'm just starting out so i am trying to get a little direction.
my tips is to go with a 11:1 Cr, get a good tune, possibly port and polish those heads. i could see a well thought out and prepared build of a 331 lay down between 340-380 to the wheels without nitrious, or forced induction.
